Prophetstown Area Historical Society formed in 1987, dedicating it’s purpose to preserving local history through exhibits, collections, stories and genealogies of the families from the first settlers in 1834 to the present. The Historical Society operates a museum at 320 Washington Street(open by appointment and Saturday 10-12), and has purchased and are renovating the Asa Crook Home, the oldest two-story home (built in 1830) in Whiteside County. The society holds membership in the Illinois Historical Society and the Illinois Association of Museums. Prophetstown’s AARP group convenes the fourth Tuesday of each month with a noon potluck, informative program and meeting. An annual regional dinner and meeting is held with surrounding communities.For more information, contact Charlene Hanson, AARP, 503 Adams St.. Prophetstown, IL 61277.

Prophetstown-Lyndon Area Chamber of Commerce is organized to advance the general welfare of the Prophetstown-Lyndon area so that its citizens and all areas of its business community shall prosper.  All necessary means of promotion shall be provided and particular attention and emphasis shall be given to the economic, civic, commercial, cultural, industrial and educational interest of the area.   

 

Prophetstown Lions Club are men and women who volunteer their time to humanitarian causes in their local and world communities. By conducting service projects and raising funds, Lions strive to help those in need, wherever need exists. The lions’ motto is “We Serve”. The Prophetstown Lions club was chartered in 1947. The association was founded in Chicago in 1917. Prophetstown Masonic Lodge #293 was chartered in 1858. We are recognized by the Illinois Grand Lodge of Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons. The Masonic Lodges in Lyndon, Tampico and Hooppole have since merged with Prophetstown, forming a membership of the four surrounding communities. The Masons donate to local organizations and sponsor school activities. Coon Creek Men's Club support the community through donations to local schools and other civic organizations. The Jaycees host the annual Summer Fest in August and Farm Toy show in October.  For more information contact Dave Drummet. 317 Washington St. Prophetstown, IL 61277 815-537-2881.

Royal Neighbors of American Camp #516 is the local branch of Royal Neighbors of America, a Fraternal Benefit Society founded in 1888. Royal Neighbors is the largest Fraternal Life Insurance Society administered by women providing life insurance for approximately 335,000 men, women, and children. Some of the fraternal benefits include Royal Neighbor National Home; Fraternal Scholarship Program; Orphan Benefit Program; Habitat for Humanity and Dogs for Deaf. American Legion Post #522 meets semi-monthly and owns a building at 215 Washington Street. The 100 member local Legion Post sponsors Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Legion Baseball. The group is completing a genealogy of all persons with a Prophetstown address who served in any service branch during war or peace times.

Minerva Chapter #6 Order of the Eastern Star celebrated it’s 131 birthday in 2001. We are the second oldest Chapter in Illinois. We were formed before the Grand Chapter of Illinois, receiving our charter from the state of New York. We have 115 members and meet at 7:30 PM on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month.
