Education
With the assistance of the Prophetstown-Lyndon-Tampico Education Foundation, local organizations and grants, the district is able to provide access to technology through computer centers in each building, as well as computers in each classroom. Internet access is available using T-1 lines and wireless technology. Elementary and high school students have participated in the artist-in residence program. Examples of student work are can be found at Artsonia Prophetstown High School students have the opportunity to earn college credit through Sauk Valley Community College. . Juniors and seniors also have the option of attending the Whiteside Area Career Center is one of 25 area career centers in Illinois providing technical training in the areas of Business and Related Technology, Consumer Service, Industrial Technology, Transportation Services and Work Experience Cooperative Education. Through a program with SVCC, students can go to WACC and receive up to 21 dual credits. Through an articulation agreement between PHS and SVCC students can earn credits at SVCC in business and computer classes. The possibility of articulation credits in calculus is being explored. Prophetstown Lyndon Tampico Schools Prophetstown High School has explored cooperative programs in sports with neighboring schools and as a result has been able to maintain a full schedule of sports including golf, baseball, softball, cross country, football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling and track. Prophetstown is in the SAUK VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT. Sauk, approximately 25 miles northeast of Prophetstown, offers an excellent curriculum for students planning to transfer to four-year colleges or universities. In fact, Sauk transfer students perform better than four-year students at state universities. Sauk has articulation agreements with both Western Illinois University and Northern Illinois University. Sauk also has a wide range of career studies programs. Sauk’s Center for Business and Economic Development provides programs and to business, industry, not-for-profit and governmental organizations and employers. Educational institutions within an hour’s drive include private colleges, Saint Ambrose; and Augustana College 45 miles. The Quad City Graduate/Undergraduate Center, a 45 minute drive, offers a variety of graduate level courses from several different universities. Western Illinois University now has a campus in Moline. In addition, Northern Illinois University is just over an hour from Prophetstown. In addition to SVCC, Blackhawk Community College is also within an easy drive. Henry C.
